This article will focus purely on buying land, I will add a guide for renting a little later on. [i]In order to purchase land you must first be a premium member, Secondlife offers 3 types of payment plans, You can pay via credit card or through paypal. Visit your "my account" section to find out more information. Premium Costs $9.95 USD per month $22.50 USD Per quarter ( every 3 months) $72 USD per year. For more information on premium memberships click here Once you become a premium member you are entitled to 512sqm without paying any extra $USD. The more land you own the more tier you pay, For tier costs please click here. Secondlife offers new residents a first land option, This means you can buy your first 512sqm plot at only $512L to find first land plots click on search (in world) type in first land, or click on the land tab. I didn’t purchase first land when I joined secondlife purely because I didn’t know anything about it, However I do believe that it is a good idea to purchase first land, You don’t have to keep it if you don’t want there quite a few “real estate” agents in world who would be happy to pay you fairly for it. Things to remember when buying land
1) Sim Rating – There are 2 types of ratings, PG and Mature, In a mature sim you can build adult orientated items. PG is good for those that don’t wish to be surrounded by strip clubs and things like that.
2) Location - Take a look around the plot your interested in, Do you like? Are you comfortable with your neighbours and their buildings? If not it may be a good idea to keep searching, However keep in mind that not everyone has the same imagination as you and that you may go to sleep with a house beside you and wake up with a giant prim wall. 3) Mainland or private – The difference? If you purchase mainland your tier (if you have any) gets paid to linden labs, Private sales like those from anshe chung ect the tier gets paid to the sim owners. Which is better? I personally have only ever brought on the mainland, I haven’t had any problems with nasty neighbours, or junk ect, However some real estate corporations do offer “zoned” land, This means if you buy land in their residential area you are only able to build housing ect, If you purchase in a commercial area you can only build stores ect.
4) Pricing – Always look around first, Its like buying a new car in real life, You don’t always have to go for the first one you see because chances are you can get the same thing cheaper elsewhere. Bare in mind that some area’s cost more, Example: you may find a 512sqm plot for lets say $3000L, Now if you wanted a 512sqm waterfront plot then you may find it costs more. Questions & Answers Whats the difference with land sizes? The most noticeable difference would be prim limits. With 512sqm you get 117 prims, so you really do have to be careful with you build/buy. The bigger the plot the more prims you are allowed to have. I have questions about the land I want to buy what do I do? Right click the ground, choose about land, in the general tab it will list the owner/seller along with profile, click profile and choose IM, Explain to the owner that your interested in their land for sale and have some questions, 9 out of 10 times the seller will be happy to answer them for you. Have more questions or tips to add? Feel free to post them. Note: This article is based on personal experience and observation
